To learn martial art for Boomers and Seniors is like putting money in the bank.

How so? Well, it’s like this, life moves forward, and for the average person, frustrations build up. When this happens, the person involved, can be nearing a very dangerous position both professionally and domestically.

In many instances, these people are walking time bombs, just waiting to explode. When this happens, all heck breaks loose. You can end up with messed up, ruined careers.

And most importantly, the person’s domestic situation can take some severe hits. Divorce is not all that uncommon. One of the major causes for all of this turmoil is built up frustration. It’s important to learn martial art for seniors.

Usually these frustrations are the result of disappointments in life from both personal and professional events. Spouses are no longer enamored with each other, and promotions and recognitions at the office are slim to none.

I have personally experienced all of the above negative emotions and experiences. The smartest thing I ever did, was one day while driving home from work, I decided I needed to break out of my rut.

I felt deep down inside that my life was going nowhere and that I needed to do something different. You know what I mean? I wanted to add some excitement to my life.

Rather then get mixed up in a self-destructive “affair” or go on a drinking binge, I decided the best thing I could do for myself was to take up martial arts. Or, at least check it out and decide if I wanted to learn martial

So I ended up taking lessons at the local Tae Kwon Do school.

This decision turned out to be the most intelligent thing I have done in twenty years. I kid you not. Why was this such a positive and significant event for me? I should let you talk with my wife. She would give you some very interesting comments.

Slowly and subtlety, I became transformed as a husband and partner. Up to this point of beginning martial arts, my wife and I were not getting along terrible well. We tolerated each other. And that’s putting a good face on it.

I became indoctrinated into the tenets and philosophy of Tae Kwon Do. Subsequently, my behavior at home was greatly affected. Namely, the arguments became less. My self control improved.

Specifically, I started giving my wife more “respect”. And, she in turn started giving me more respect. Before I knew it, we became a mutual admiration couple. Don’t misunderstand me. My domestic transition, didn’t happen overnight. It took months for this to evolve. In some instances, it took years. However, there was continuous positive progress. My “old self” was fundamentally altered. Now you can think what you want, but this is quite unusual, coming from and “old guy” at the time, in his late 50’s.

On the other hand, this personality transformation, on my part, really is not that unusual. You can find the same thing happening with teen age juvenile delinquents or convicts in jail. You don’t believe me? Just ask Chuck Norris.

Norris’s program, Kickstart, has and is going very strong in Dallas and Houston, Texas as we speak. This use of martial arts for making a transformation of people really is no surprise.

One other example of successful use of martial arts in helping people transform themselves, involves the prison world, most specifically penitentiaries and out treatment centers for people who are having trouble with authority. A great deal of this problem concerns itself with fear management.

A lot of these wayward offenders have deep seated battles and conflicts with fear. And, the majority of these people can’t be approached successfully by counseling and religion. They don’t want any part of this “Thou shalt not culture”.

However, they do respect strength and oftentimes, the strong structure of martial art discipline that exists with traditional martial art training. As each layer of fear and emotional blockage disappears, the traditional martial art tenets are integrated into the student. The end result of most successful martial art students is comparable to a true religious conversion.

The fear is gone and the student is restored to “normalcy”. Normalcy being a viable adjusted productive human being. Fear is not the only emotion that martial arts can eradicate to a great extent. As I indicated earlier, frustration, anger and stagnation can take a real toll on individuals. There is nothing like a rigorous martial art course to retool an individual for fruitful and enjoyable living.

It goes without saying, having a superior Instructor is extremely important when it comes to a successful martial program. In this regard, I cannot recommend more highly such a Teacher, then my own Master Dae Hoon Lee. (Lee’s Traditional Tae Kwon Do, Sarasota, Florida)

If it is not possible for you to work with him, you can get a recommendation from him for a proper and well qualified Teacher. Master Lee is well integrated and known in Tae Kwon Do and the Martial Arts. He has done a lot of work with Olympic aspirants.

Cheers
